Gender-based violence (GBV) is a phenomenon deeply rooted in gender inequality, and continues to be one of the most notable human rights violations within all societies. GBV refers to harmful acts directed at an individual based on their gender. During displacement and times of crisis, the threat of GBV significantly increases for women and girls.
Violence against women is known as a violation of human rights and a form of discrimination against women and shall mean all acts of gender-based violence that result in, or are likely to result in physical harm, sexual harm, psychological, economic harm, or suffering to women.
One form of violence against women is verbal abuse. Verbal abuse occurs when someone repeatedly uses negative or demeaning words to gain or maintain power and control over someone else. Verbal abuse in itself may not involve physical contact, but it can still cause emotional or psychological harm and progress toward violence.
In response to this, SCORA & SCORP CIMSA FK Unila collaborated in holding a project with the theme INVASION (Increasing Awareness of Violence Against Women). This project aims to increase public awareness and understanding of violence against women.
Because of the pandemic, this project held online on August 15th – 29th 2021. The project unofficially began with recruitment for volunteers and continued by social experiment videos making by them on August 2nd – 15th 2021. Then, the project officially started with pre-activity training that attended by member of SCORA & SCORP CIMSA FK Unila and the volunteers on August 15th 2021. Next, there was air campaign through Instagram Story in form myth/fact and agree/disagree that campaigned by all the official committees and volunteers. Also, we uploaded the social experiment video on instagram @cimsaunila. Last, the project was closed by webinar and talkshow via zoom meeting that held on August 29th 2021. The event was delivered by Shinta Mayasari, M. Psi as a head of HIMPSI Lampung Region with the topic “Verbal Abuse Coping Skills”. While the talkshow was delivered by Kalis Mardiasih as columnist & gender equality campaigner also an influencer with the topic “Verbal Abuse: Cat-calling, Body Shaming, and Victim Blaming”.
Despite the topic is very popular, yet many people have not the consciousness about it. Sometimes, we didn’t realize that the incident is often happened around us and indeed reputed as trivia and get ignored. Therefore, let’s increasing awareness and our concern toward violence against women especially in verbal abuse. #Women’sRightMatter
